Private Beta in progress
Candidates speak naturally with James — not through rigid questionnaires, scripted tests or keyword-driven assessments.
Every interview is shaped by rank, vessel experience, professional responsibilities, operational context and the direction of the conversation.
The system continuously interprets demonstrated knowledge and professional reasoning to build a clearer, more consistent view of competence.
Technical interviews should measure independent competence — not interviewer influence.
CrewUI is a maritime crew interviewing and competence-assessment system for seafarers and maritime employers. It conducts natural live professional interviews through James, separates the candidate-facing conversation from governed assessment and supports — but does not replace — human recruitment decisions.
The challenge
Maritime technical interviews depend on professional judgement, but outcomes can also be influenced by inconsistent questioning, interviewer fatigue, familiarity, accent perception, subjective judgement and well-intentioned prompting.
Protecting candidate evidence
When substantial assistance enters an interview, information introduced by the interviewer may later be repeated by the candidate and mistaken for independently demonstrated knowledge. That can weaken the evidence behind a hiring decision.
The CrewUI approach
CrewUI is designed to preserve the distinction between independently demonstrated knowledge, clarification and interviewer-assisted responses. Maritime context and traceable evidence help employers reach better-informed decisions while keeping people responsible for the final choice.
James · Interview intelligence
The conversation is natural. The intelligence behind it is anything but simple.
James is engineered to conduct adaptive live interviews using multi-stage semantic interpretation and contextual reasoning, with graph-guided retrieval-augmented generation designed to draw from governed maritime knowledge aligned with STCW and applicable IMO, ILO, regulatory, industry and operational requirements.
Adaptive interview flow and natural professional dialogue
Multi-stage interpretation of candidate-owned meaning
Role, vessel and operational awareness
Relevant governed maritime knowledge
Rank-aware expectations and applicability
Structured interpretation of demonstrated evidence
Recognised maritime foundations
Guided by recognised maritime competence frameworks, regulatory requirements, industry standards and operational authorities.
Conversation and assessment are intentionally separated.
A deterministically governed, evidence-based assessment architecture. CrewUI keeps the natural interview experience and the interpretation of competence distinct.
James
James conducts the adaptive live interview, manages natural dialogue pacing and delivers the candidate-facing conversation. The conversational layer has no independent scoring or competence-assessment authority.
Governed assessment kernel
The governed assessment process interprets candidate-owned meaning, tracks interviewer assistance, validates applicable maritime knowledge and maps demonstrated evidence against professional competence expectations.
For seafarers
CrewUI is designed as a professional conversation rather than a multiple-choice examination or keyword test. James follows your experience, responsibilities and answers naturally, giving you room to demonstrate how you think and how you would act in real maritime situations.
Your competence is more than the words you recall. It is how you reason, decide and act at sea.
For companies
CrewUI provides a structured and consistent view of how a candidate demonstrates maritime knowledge, operational understanding and professional judgement during the interview.
A stronger crewing decision begins with evidence that can be understood, traced and judged in context.
